Sport psychology defines the principles and the guidelines that are needed to help adults and
children's to participate in sports and exercise activities. There are two main objectives.
The way to understand how psychological factors degrade an individual's performance
physically.
The way to understand how participation in activities affects the individual's
psychological development and well-being.
HISTORY OF SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY:
The history of sports psychology was started in late 1800s and it have grown to enhance the
performance of individual in the area of sports. The sports psychology history falls into six
periods.

Period 1: The Early years (1895-1920)
Period 2: The Griffith Era (1921-1938)
Period 3: Preparation for the Future (1939-1965)
Period 4: the Establishment of Academic Sport psychology (1966- 1977)
Period 5: Multidisciplinary Science and Practice in Sport and Exercise Psychology (1978-2000)
Period 6: Contemporary Sport and Exercise Psychology (2000- Present).
PSYCHOLOGY SKILL TRAINING:
 Psychological skill training is the repeated training of mind or psychological skills.
There are some physical skills that are ned to be practiced regularly to become better.
These skills are known to the coechers and the athletes.in identity to the physical skill
there is a psychological skills of maintaining concentration and regulating energy levels are
to be practiced.
There are some psychological training programmes which are very common and those programs need
to be practiced, implemented under the senior supervisor.
IMPORTANCE OF PSYCHOLOGY SKILL TRAINING:
All sports participants will fall to mistake and mental letdowns.
The emotional component always overshadows the technical aspects of performance.
The overshadows can be avoided only when there is a equal fit in both mind and body.
The individuals success and failure determination lies in the individuals practice to
both physical and mental skills.
