Depression and Exercise


Exercise regularly will helps to get better over-all mood and fitness and should take you approximately 30mins to complete. Exercise and depression research has proven that exercise helps to reduce depression quickly. The best exercise holds the promise of improved energy and renewed energy.


Exercise is becoming a most known form of therapy. Doug Burke, who developed a structured exercise program that is very much used in treating Veterans suffering depression and trauma reactions. Some of the advantages of exercise in depression are as follows:

  • Exercise will bring increase positive mood

  • Doing exercise will bring good sleep.

  • Those person doing exercise will have less nervousness and anxiety

  • Exercise will bring decrease negative mood.

  • Exercise will improve vigor.

  • Exercise is effective in reducing stress, anger, and fatigue.

  • Many evidence proves that exercise plays a vital role in uplifting depression


Points to keep in mind while starting any exercise program:
  • Ask your doctor to recommend based on her/his findings, an exercise program should be practical, safe and healthy.

  • A warm bath after you exercise the first few times will help to reduce those aches and pains that come when you involuntarily do over-exercise.

  • Try to maintain a regular timetable for doing exercise.

  • Always work out at your own rate and skip exercise if you are not well, have virus or a raised temperature
